WHAT?

We want to reduce the amount of plastic waste on the white beaches of Zanzibar, created by the growing flock of tourists. By transforming waste into attractive but compact products that contain a large amount of waste, we will try to get tourists to take their own trash home.

Through the knowledge brought to us by our supporters (Precious Plastic, Sick, Plastic...) and together with the employers of Chako Zanzibar, we will build step by step a Plastic Shredder and Injection moulding machine and hope to reduce the plastic waste on Zanzibar.

PROJECTGOALS

- Create a collection system for the type of plastic that is most appropriate for injection moulding the design in question.

- Built a Plastic Shredder and an Injection moulding machine and during this process involve the employees of Chako Zanzibar so that they can expand their business and to develop other machines themselves to improve their own equipment over time.

- Give plastic waste a new purpose by designing an attractive Injection moldable product that is compact, but contains a large amount of waste.

- Create new opportunities for the locals. Chako is already involved in glass waste recycling but plastic waste is becoming a bigger and bigger issue nowadays. This is why they want to expand their business and this is where they need our help. 

- Promote awareness of plastic waste recycling. Plastic pollution requires a global and comprehensive solution.
