CHAKO
CHAKO is a social enterprise operating from Mwanakwarekwe, Zanzibar.
They work according the "Tourist2Tourist" concept, meaning they make souvenirs for tourists from the waste that tourists directly produce. This offers tourists a way to reduce their negative impact on the island with a positive approach; by buying original, innovative souvenirs for friends and family.
CHAKO products are made of recycled materials. Not only does this create something beautiful out of waste, it shows the local community to learn to recycle themselves.
Precious Plastic
Precious Plastic is a global community of hundreds of people working towards a solution to plastic pollution. Knowledge, tools and techniques are shared online, for free. So everyone can start their own project. Hundreds of people all over the world contribute to the project with their skills & knowledge, single or monthly donations.
Precious Plastic was started in 2013 by Dave Hakkensand is now at its third iteration counting on dozens of people working on the project, remotely or on site (somewhere below sea level in the Netherlands).
They have created machines that enable anyone to recycle plastic. These machines are made from basic materials, affordable and easy to build. Dave created a series of video tutorials that are easy to follow and help you get started building.
Sick Plastic
Sick Plastic is a plastic recycle & awareness company located in The Hague. Sick Plastic promotes - through cool, interactive, adventurous, creative workshops - awareness about plastic pollution and tackles the pollution together with the participants. Together with the participants they make beautiful, new, sustainable products from the plastic waste that outherwise would have piled up on the shores.
